| EARLY CHILDHOOD |
(Early Learning Center, Nursery,
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) |
MUSIC
The objectives for students at the Early Childhood level include acquiring
the basic music skills of listening and performing (choral) while learning
the elements of rhythm, tempo, dynamics, pitch and mood.
The music curriculum at the Kindergarten level encourages students to
participate in a collective musical experience. Through music, the program
allows students to familiarize themselves with a certain language.
The curriculum also allows students to sharpen their auditive capacities
by listening, recognizing and reproducing different noises and sounds.
Improvisation and composition are also practiced, through song.
ART
The art program at the Early Childhood level encourages students
to produce work using their unique levels of creativity. The program allows
students to sharpen their innate capacities with new techniques, to speak
about their own work, to speak about the works of others and to observe
and discuss art.
TECHNOLOGY
The Technology program begins at the Nursery level with computer games
that reinforce counting, letter recognition and cognitive skills. This program
familiarizes children with the computer and gives them the skills to use
a keyboard and handle a mouse. As students move to primary and
elementary levels, they learn more complex computer instructions that
allow them to build upon their existing skills.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The physical education program at the Early Childhood level allows students
to situate themselves through space, to perform specific movements in space,
to control the movements of one's body, to develop capacities of adaptation
and cooperation through inventing motions, figures, moving in time to
music, to cooperate with others according to a model and to acquire social
self-confidence. |

Children are encouraged to learn, improve, adapt and maintain
coordination, endurance and social aspects of athletic development through:
• Natural Movement: lifting objects, jumping, crawling,
climbing, balancing,t hrowing, running. These activities develop muscle
and bone growth and improve cardiovascular strength. Warm-ups and
classes focus on obstacle courses that support functional strength.
• Physical Activities: Children participate in games that require individual
and team effort.Teamwork and sportsmanship are encouraged in class.
LIBRARY
The Pre-K class enjoys weekly visits to the library. Our librarian reads
stories to the students, followed by a discussion about the story. Library
exposure allows students to learn to respect and care for books, how a library
operates, how to borrow and return books as well as library etiquette such
as keeping noise minimal.
ELC, Nursery and Pre-K students develop their listening skills throug
reading children's literature that coincides with the curriculum. Through
age-appropriate stories, a love of reading is fostered at this early level.
Children are introduced to the purpose of a library, how to care for library
materials and the location of age-appropriate books in the library. There
is strong emphasis on library etiquette and freedom to choose books
is encouraged.
Kindergarten students are allowed to take out one book of their choice,
this develops their responsibility skills and respect for the property
of others. |
